Mid-Autumn Festival 2015 is just around the corner. While mooncakes are on everyone’s mind, Flourish Pastries decided to stick to their forte of baking tarts instead, and therefore the birth of Moon Tarts.
Aptly designed with two rabbits and macaron shells as moon, these Moon Tarts come in a well-balanced classic and trendy flavours to suit the entire family’s likings. My personal favourites have to be the Chocolate Orange and Cendol Coconut tarts. The formal reminds me of the Van Houten Napolitains orange-flavoured chocolate (ones that used to be commonly seen during Lunar New Year celebrations; I used to gamble with these as tokens), while the latter just a very comforting and familiar local flavour.
The other two flavours are the Salted Caramel 5 Kernel and the Oolong Tea Fragipane tarts. Baked in the vanilla short crust pastry are pistachio, walnut, almond, pumpkin seed and sunflower seed, finished with a layer of homemade salted caramel. The nuts and seeds were good in cutting the sweetness of the tart, which was an attractive characteristic for some. The tea-flavoured tart was surprisingly my least favourite as the flavour of the tea was weak and only merely detectable as an aftertaste. It was feedbacked to Flourish Pastries and hopefully they have upped the tea flavour a little!
As an early bird special (until 31 August 2015), Flourish Pastries is only selling this at $26 (ie. $6.50/tart); a steal I must say, seeing how the usual price is $42! Click here or here to place your order (psst, you can opt for all of the same flavour, one of each flavour, or two of two flavours per box).
