When the box of mooncakes from Conrad Centennial Singapore first landed on my hands, I was in awe at how the beautifully and intricately designed the deep red faux leather box is. I love how the subtle floral prints and the name of the hotel give a sense of mystery and elegance at the same time. I was sold at first instance that this would present itself as a perfect and impressive gift to your friends / family.
From the kitchen of Golden Peony, Conrad’s accredited Chinese restaurant, comes their signature Sweet Potato Mooncake in Crispy Filo Pastry ($62/8mooncakes). I must say that I have always not been too big a fan of sweet potato, but when the crisp exterior of the mooncake was paired with the lightly whipped yet fills-up-your-mouth sweet potato, I fell in love with it. I also like the fact that it is not too sweet; in fact the sweetness is on the low side, just in time as I start to get a little health conscious. Considering the quality and presentation of the mooncakes, the price is rather reasonable.
Besides this signature mooncake, Conrad is continuing to offer classic favourites of the traditional baked mooncakes ($62 – $70/4mooncakes). They come in four flavours: white lotus paste, white lotus paste with single / double yolk, and mixed nuts. Also available are mini snowskin mooncakes ($62/8mooncakes) in flavours of green tea with melon seeds, mango with nata de coco, white lotus with cookies and cream cheese, and chestnut with red beans.
