East Ocean Teochew Restaurant is back again this year with its specialty mooncakes. Praiseworthy is the effort put into crafting the mooncakes, with them made fresh daily and free of preservatives and colourings. From now until 8 September 2014, HSBC, OCBC and UOB credit and debit card holders get to enjoy a 15% discount off boxes of 4 mooncakes and above.
For me, I fell in love with their White Lotus Paste Mooncake with Egg Yolk ($48+/box of 6). Their rendition is one with thin baked skin, averagely rich white lotus paste with a core of gigantic egg yolk. The combination results in a very light bite, and one that I can eat many slices of without getting sick of – very easy to eat. I just have to point out how big their egg yolk is; hate it when places are stingy with their yolks. So for me, this is something I would definitely go back for. UOB cardholders get to enjoy a box of this at only $38nett, from now until 8 September 2014. Please, go grab this!
The Mini Crispy Yam Mooncake ($48+/box of 9) on the other hand can be a little dry. I was hoping it could be less so, and more flavourful. The yam wasn’t really impactful with every bite also because of its thick skin.
White Lotus, Green Tea and Custard are the flavours available for these Mini Snowskin Mooncakes ($48+/box of 9). These snow skins are thinner than usual, and relatively softer as well. It depends on your liking, but I prefer my snow skins to be firmer, because the point of snow skin is that, I want some taste of snow skin. Flavour-wise, I thought the traditional white lotus and green tea aren’t bad.
