It’s the time of the year again when the crabs walk up to the shores of PARKROYAL on Beach Road. By popular demand, and with more variety, the buffet restaurant, Plaza Brasserie, has brought back the Ultimate Crab Feast, where a myriad of crab dishes will be prepared for dinner every day of the week from 6pm – 10.30pm. To be specific, there will be a spread of 27 crab dishes, including freshly prepared whole crabs in 14 different styles. Not forgetting this is on top of the usual buffet spread, including oysters, roast meat, sushi, sashimi and ice cream amongst others.
Check out here to find out more on the buffet restaurant’s general offerings. In this post, we shall focus on the star of the evening – the crabs.
Salted Egg Crab was one of my three favourites. It is those that is actually hard to go too wrong. It is evident that the intensity of the salted egg coating was high, and was nothing short of impressive.
The Cereal Crab made it to the list as well, in no order of merits. It is also one of the regular items diners tend to order, especially when having a zi-char. Stir-fried to a perfect crunch and savoury buttery note is the marriage of curry leaves and golden cereal, adorned on the whole crabs. Once again, it was one of those go-back dishes where you know you can rely on any time.
Last, but not the least, is one that is less commonly seen – Crab Kut Teh. As can be guessed by its name, the crustacean is served in a claypot of richly-flavoured broth of crab shells, pork bones and ‘Bak Kut Teh’ spices. Just imagine Bak Kut Teh, replacing the bak kut meat and smell with that of the crabs, and voila! Quite a successful interesting twist.
Other whole crab dishes include Marmite Crab, Chilli Crab, Black Pepper Crab, XO Crab and others. There are also side and cold crab dishes lined up, including Spicy Crabmeat Salad, Crabmeat Tartlet, and Crabmeat Roti John amongst others.
Available until 27 July 2014, the buffet is with incredibly great value, being priced at a stunningly cheap price of $65++ for adults and $39++ for kids. Highly recommended for crab lovers or any uncontrollable crab cravings, or simply just a value-for-money hotel buffet.
NOTE though, the restaurant is already fully booked for this promotion for the entire month of June and weekends of July. Only slots left are weekdays of July. Even so, I bet there are already big pockets of them already filled up. Waste no time and snatch your seats soon!
