(Christmas 2013) 8 Restaurants for Christmas.

It’s that time of the year again, where you gather, catch up and eat in celebration of the festive seasons. This year for Christmas features, I’ve decided to list some of my favorite restaurants in 2013. They are in no order of merits. The Chosen Glutton is in no way a representation of any the restaurants.


(1) Privé Grill

Located at the picturesque and dreamy Keppel Bay, Privé Grill prides itself as an establishment offering top quality steaks, prepared with its Spanish-imported Josper grill. A fitting hideout to absorb the stunning views of the marina and surrounding lush greenery.

(2) Alkaff Mansion Ristorante

This exquisite Italian restaurant has no shortage of accreditation, including awards like one of Singapore’s Best Restaurants by Singapore Tatler and Wine & Dine. Your meal will be set in a historical mansion that was first built in 1918. Its high ground serves as a vantage point, offering a panoramic view of the 19-hectare Telok Blangah Hill Park and the sea south of Singapore.

Brunch Buffet:
The brunch buffet features starters including buffalo mozzarella and avocado salad, seafood like coffin bay oysters, lobsters and prawns, and pan-seared tuna loin, cold cuts of sliced ‘pio tosini’ parma ham and sliced US roast beef, live stations preparing flambé crayfish and oven-baked turkey, and desserts including tiramisu, chocolate fountain and christmas fruit cake. And many more lined up at the buffet line.

(3) Oca Grassa

Oca Grassa literally means ‘fat goose’ in Italian. Be treated to quality Italian fare along Bukit Pasoh Road in a casual atmosphere.

(4) Skyve Wine Bistro

The Bistro is the best for skiving, as evident from its name, in that it offers an option for every individual, from alfresco dining to a lounge area to a proper traditional dining place, you’re free to pick where to sit and well, skive for the night. Being a Wine Bistro also means that they have a wine cellar themselves, cheers, to wine enthusiasts.

(5) The Halia @ Singapore Botanic Gardens

Dining amidst the lush greenery, Singapore Botanic Gardens, no less, is pure pampering for any individual. A slow walk in / out of the restaurant completes the experience. ‘Halia’, Malay for ‘ginger’, is apt for it’s located in the Ginger Garden of the Gardens. They had a facelift sometime back, now sitting peacefully in the area with a modern and contemporary interior design.

Menu (25 December)
Brunch Buffet:
The brunch buffet features cold cuts of wood-smoked salmon and shaved Christmas ham, seafood like oyster shooters, tuna and salmon sashimi and poached South Australian prawns, soups including cream of mushroom and chestnut soup with truffle oil, carving stations preparing roast turkey breast and slow-roasted wagyu beef, hot items like braised beef bourguignon, Atlantic salmon, Halia chili crab spaghetti and sweet treats of Christmas pudding with butterscotch sauce, assorted macarons, Christmas cookies and Christmas log cake. And many more lined up at the buffet line.

(6) Pidgin Kitchen & Bar

Since its opening some quarter of a year back, Pidgin has been well-known for its daring but undoubtedly successful creations, quoting Foie Gras with Rojak Sauce as an example. The restaurant largely serves items with Southeast Asia inspirations; one that doesn’t fail to surprise your palate and gives you an exciting and unimaginable dining experience.

(7) Hediard Café-Boutique

A humble little French cafe situated at Tudor Court, having a Christmas meal here is not so much of the luxurious, expensive dining experience but more of the homely, small and cozy get-together kind. One thing’s for sure, they serve up unpretentious French food.

(8) Stellar @ 1-Altitude

Probably one of the restaurants with the best view in Singapore, Stellar @ 1-Altitude is no stranger to views of the Marina Bay, Esplanade and beyond. You would literally feel on top of the world. A romantic dinner location.
