Introducing a smartphone app that can potentially save your relationship – Pickat SG.
You’re out with your (indecisive) bunch of friends. Once again, no surprise, you’re standing at the middle of the walkway no less, deciding where to eat. Though not wearing a red underwear and a cape, you (whip out your phone and) save the day by clicking into Pickat – a convenient app that tells you the eateries around your current location, and reviews by fellow Pickat user (also known as Pickers).
You’re on a date. A silly but more than common strife occurred – where to eat? You, as a better-in-technology half, put a stop to this once and for all, thanks to Pickat and its services. You can not only read about what Pickers have to say about the places around you, you can search for restaurants near an MRT / Shopping Centre as well. Now your other half would be impressed with your knowledge on food. I’d say let him / her in on this, but after a while; after you’re done having fun being the smarter one.
Before we get all arrogant here, -coughcough-, let me guide you through the simple few steps in becoming one of us; the chosen ones, here at the chosen glutton (no pun intended, I swear). Now, on how to review food places you’ve been to.
Step 1: Install the app named Pickat through your Play Store / Apple Store. Of course.
Step 2: Click in. Soak in the app. The beauty of this app is at almost any point of your navigation, there is the ‘Pick’ icon at the bottom right hand corner for ease of posting your reviews. Click on ‘Pick’.
Step 3: (1) Pick a place that you’d like to review. (2) Choose / Create your Theme. For instance, I had inserted ‘Carpenter and Cook’ into my ‘TCG’s Favorite Brunch Spot’! (3) Upload up to 4 photos. (4) Type your review. Yum yum. Yay or nay. (5) Rate it as ‘Like’ or ‘So-so’. (6) Share it on your Facebook / Twitter. (7) Click on done (top right hand corner)! Say whutttt. A minute or two can get you a review up and going.
Moving on to navigating around the app.
(1) By clicking on the ‘Location’ on the main page, you can search for eateries at (a) your current location (b) near a specific shopping centre, (c) or near a specific MRT station. That spells nothing but convenience.
(2) You can click on the ‘Preferred Categories’ to surf for places to go. By clicking on ‘more’ in that section, you can search for a list of services other than food – accommodation, market, spa etc.
(3) Swipe your screen to the right, you can see the sidebar. Feeling random and adventurous? You can go right in to the Public Feed to see what some of the latest reviews are. Similarly, ‘Top Themes’ will show you the path of the road to useful themes like ‘Guide to Local Eats’ and the likes.
Gaining food knowledge around Singapore cannot be made easier. From time to time, awesome ‘coupons’ can be obtained via the app. For instance, free Ya Kun Iced Coffee / Tea was one good offer.
Download the Pickat app and join me trying to pick all the places in Singapore. Find me listed as one of the ‘Top Pickers’. I’ll bring you through a foodie journey.
