Amidst the busy weeks of Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day in February, another thing to keep your eyes glued to is the Restaurant Week, opening of booking. If you’re a veteran, you would have known that booking early is key if you want to settle for a top class restaurant (at a steal).
If you’re new to Restaurant Week. A short introduction.
Restaurant Week’s idea all started in New York, US, 6 years ago. 3 years after they have started, and proved to be a huge success, Singapore became the first city in Asia to showcase Restaurant Week.
Thereafter, bi-annually, restaurants would come together for this coveted week. Each restaurant would whip up a 3-course Set Lunch and a Set Dinner (though at times, only one of them will be available) at $25++ and $35++ respectively. Certain restaurants will charge a fixed fee on top of the standard ($15++ for lunch, $20++ for dinner). This usually happens for the otherwise relatively unreachable restaurants for the middle-class man like myself (dubbed DiningCity Star Restaurants). With each passing year, more and more restaurants have joined this special cause, all for the good of Singaporeans’, expats’ and tourists’ stomachs alike. I like.
This year, being the 6th edition (damn, it’s worth commending), restaurants like OTTO Locanda, Etna @ Duxton, and Gunther’s will be joining the ranks of Absinthe, Au Jardin, Stellar at 1-Altitude, and Salt Grill and Sky Bar. Yes, you got the drill.
So, booking starts 22 February. If you sign up with diningcity.sg, you get to book 2 days in advance. To be honest, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. So, why not?
Something new this year as well, DiningCity’s Restaurant Week has gone a little further in satisfying diners (as if it isn’t great enough). They’ve teamed up with KLM and many other partners to give out fantastic prizes on top of the reasonably priced dinners and lunches this entire week. For every lunch / dinner, patron would be entitled to 2 x free Scratch & Win cards on the app! Prizes include a 1-night stay at the Capella Hotel, $500 Garibaldi Wine & Dine Experience, and 2 x KLM airline ticket to Bali. Even losing tickets can be entered into the Grand Draw of 2 x KLM airline ticket to Amsterdam Restaurant Week! I want that, if you don’t. The app is called Bucket – Scratch & Win.
