Interior.

The only time I’ll be at Vienna International Seafood & Teppanyaki Buffet Restaurant is when my mum is craving for it. Of the three times I was here, it was with the family. The last time I was here, was years ago, when I was still in school (my, I’m quickly aging). Nothing drastic has changed yet. It is still as crowded and cramp, located on the basement of United Square, Novena. Aisles are maxed at a tight two-way traffic, and it can get frustrating trying to get in and out of your seat, depending on where you are seated. It is also quite absurd that photos are disallowed at the buffet line. I really wonder what dirty little secret(s) they are hiding from the media. In view of that, I only managed to snap photos when I get them to my plate.

Test Tube Juices.

Plus point here is, juices and soft drinks are inclusive and free-flow. One of my pet peeves of dining at a buffet restaurant is that it doesn’t serve drinks. I get annoyed; I think I’d rather them remove one of the not-so-popular items in the buffet line and include drinks instead.

Soup.

Soup :: This one-portion-per-diner soup is reasonably so because of its involvement of relatively higher-class ingredients like sea anemone and mini scallops. However, the seemingly thoroughly boiled soup did not impress as I expected it to. I cleared its ingredients and left half the soup alone.

Appetizers.

Appetizer Counter :: Prawn salad, seafood tofu and abalone salad are some of the appetizers available on one side of the buffet line. On the other are the usual suspects, octopus, salads and the likes. Nothing in particular left a deep mark.

Assorted Sashimi.

Japanese Cuisine Counter :: Its ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ Counter comprises just a small selection of sushi, but is established more in its sashimi side. Not surprising though, it wasn’t the freshest lot I’ve had, but I guess sufficient to satisfy the mandatory Japanese cuisine time in buffets.

Seafood.

Seafood Counter :: Though they all tasted bland, I was excited to see the array of shelled sea creatures they offer despite only charging slightly before $50 before taxes. They don’t taste bad; You just need to find the right condiments / gravy to go along with it.

Canadian Oysters.

Canadian Oysters :: You will most likely see the sign, ‘Canadian Oysters’ without actually seeing the gem. Because they only serve the freshly shucked oysters once in a while, you can actually see a queue form just at the counter. It is such a disgusting scene to see though, when the oysters make an appearance and the diners just stretch out their (now longer) hands, like in desperation for some food. Really. The oysters aren’t the freshest, like most of their other items, but well enough to eat and satisfy oysters cravings.

Chili Crab.

Chili Crab :: You can skip this one, or grab one to share amongst the table. The gravy is passable, but the meat was way too soft and weak to have a good bite through it. I am throwing a guess that it was over cooked. If the meat was firmer, it would be plausible for the crab to be a star dish.

Roast Beef.

Meat Counter :: Besides the ordinary-tasting Roast Beef with Black Pepper Sauce, they also serve local delights such as Satay. In case you are wondering, yes, you do your own carvings. Very limited counter, though.

Teppanyaki – Veggies.

Teppanyaki Counter :: Grab a plate, fill them up with however big or small portion of the Teppanyaki dishes you want. From Dou Miao and Beansprouts to beef, chicken, fish and lamb, you’re most certainly able to find something that tickles your fancy here. Be warned though, don’t take too big a portion. Its vegetables weren’t salted enough, the beef was way too salty, the salmon was heavily flavored by the mustard, and the lamb was alright. It was late into the buffet that I was still searching for something I would go back for. Not here as well.

Cakes.

Dessert Counter :: Don’t be expecting too much for their dessert. You can probably find three cakes, a few pastries, and three flavors of ice cream (but with ice cream cone and Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup. One thing commendable is that they are equipped with a Chocolate Fondue, albeit rather ordinary, taste-wise. All these thoughts come with the price in mind.

Prices can be found on their website here.
Service was prompt but poor. They clear plates fast, sure, but they aren’t the friendliest persons around. Which makes me think again; I’d rather spend twenty odd dollars more for better quality of food in the buffet line, approachable staff, and a more spacious and better laid out restaurant.

If your impression of mouth-watering Mexican food is that of Burritos and Tacos topped with over-flowing goodness, you probably need to check MEXOUT, out. MEXOUT prides itself as one of the very, very few Mexican food bistros in Singapore. And to add to that, it is one which serves good Mexican food at very reasonable prices.

Sofa Area.

Hidden in Far East Square amidst rows of cafes and bistros, its exterior does not actually scream Mexico as much as its food does. Its interior, modeled after a basement, is cozily decorated and furnished with well-adorned shelves, sofas and candle-lit tables. And this is where the fun begins.

Menu.

FLEXI | EASY | MESSY: Having no fixed menu, MEXOUT forces the cravings out of you by allowing you to design your own Burrito, or Taco, according to how you would best like it made. Although I was a little overwhelmed initially at its variety of ingredients (which is arguably a good thing), I was able to successfully customize my own personal Burrito and Taco in just 6 short steps. You can make it a meal deal, which comes with chips and a drink, at simply $6 more.

Queue.

FLEXI | EASY | MESSY: MEXOUT mainly serves the lunchtime crowd, and its Burritos, conveniently wrapped in foil, provides a quick and easy fix for people who wants to avoid the “tissue-packet” apocalypse of hawker centers. Its owner, Australia-born Marcus Jilla stresses that the bistro boosts a completely different feel during lunch and dinner. With the lights dimmed, and happy hour ongoing from 6-8pm (alcoholic drinks start from a mere $7), it will be the place to hang out with your friends.

FLEXI | EASY | MESSY: In my opinion, no Burrito or Taco can be considered good if the ingredients are not packed till they spill out of the wrap. And it is awesome that the people at Mexout are so generous with their portions.

Chips :: $5 (with salsa) / $6 (with guacamole)

Nachos :: $15

Chips ($5 with salsa / $6 with guacamole) & Nachos ($15) :: You may complement your main course with sides such as Chips & Guacamole or Nachos. The Nachos is large enough to be shared among a group of 4, and it comes topped with cheese, beans, rice, and your preferred choice of meat(s). If you would like some Mexican-styled spiciness for your Burritos, Tacos or Chips, do ask for a small plate of Salsa Picante sauce to excite your taste buds.

Tacos :: 3 for $13

Tacos (3 for $13) :: The choice of the day for me is undoubtedly the Cochinita Pibil Taco topped with Mango Pineapple Salsa dressing and Tasty Cheese. The main ingredient for this taco is Diced Pork Shoulder braised in orange juice, spices and banana leaves. And the chef has somehow managed to infuse and lock all the aromas of the spices into the pork, while still maintaining the meat’s tender chewiness. Every bite is thus a flavorful, juicy interplay with the sweet salsa sauce and cheese topping. The little amount of fats on the pork also came to accentuate the fragrance of the slow-cooked pork, making every mouthful of the taco a savory delight.

Burrito (Regular, 12-inch) :: $12

Burrito (Regular, 12-inch) ($12) :: A Beef Barbacoa Burrito topped with Salsa Fresca dressing. The shredded beef brisket dry roasted with cumin, chili and beer went well with the slight spiciness, as well as sourness of this particular salsa sauce. We also had Char-Grilled Chicken Burrito topped with Salsa Verde dressing. The chicken was very fragrantly marinated with spices such as paprika and black pepper, but was a little dry for me however.

Burrito (Mini, 8-inch) :: $9

Burrito (Mini, 8-inch) ($9) :: Coming in close with the above said dish of the day is the Char-Grilled Carne Asada Burrito topped with Mango Pineapple Salsa dressing and Sour Cream. We had this in mini sized (yes, Mexout provides this option for those of you just itching for a bite) and it did not disappoint. In fact, it is The Chosen Glutton’s favourite dish. Likewise, the air-flown New Zealand Flank Steak was extremely tender and well marinated in cilantro and paprika. There is also a very slight but satisfying beefy smell to the steak, and it contrasted well with the light sour cream topping.

Coasters.

Namecard.

I say: Bring along a few friends if you do decide to visit Mexout. They have a nice ambience for chilling and talking, and you can make use of that opportunity to create a variety of Burritos and Tacos amongst your friends, so as to share and have a taste of all that Mexout has to offer. Be prepared also, to eat like Mexicans do, and get Mex-xy with salsa sauces dripping all over your bare hands.

Yes, they provide serviettes.

—> Note #1: Reservations are commonly only taken for groups of 6 or more.

—> Note #2: They do delivery for the nearby offices as well.

Special gratitude to Marcus, Solonia, the SolWorks Team and the MEXOUT Singapore team for the hospitality and hosting the invited tasting.

The Cathay Restaurant, as the name speaks for itself, is under the wings of the Cathay Organization. I don’t usually dwell on the history of a restaurant, as it tends to bore readers out. But I thought this restaurant has a relatively more interesting story to tell.

The Cathay Restaurant.

Believe it or not, The Cathay Restaurant used to specialize in European fare instead of its current offerings. Well that was some 70 years back in 1940. After the World War II, in 1951, the eatery renovated itself not only on the exterior but interior the same. It was turned into an exquisite Chinese restaurant serving Shanghainese and Cantonese cuisine. It was as popular as All-Day Breakfast restaurants you get today, one after one sprouting into the scene. 3 years later, the restaurant closed due to the high competition.

Interior.

Today, it smartly mixes up its authenticity with the modern demands, tackling what the diners are looking for. Approximately a month ago, the restaurant kicked start having Dim Sum in their Dinner Menu. That is still up and coming today, as evident from a surprised face from my friend when she learned about the dinner being a dim sum oriented one. Sometimes you just have that craving for dim sum when the sun sets.

Steamed Yolk Cream Bun :: $4.20++

Steamed Yolk Cream Bun ($4.20++) :: Item is only served for lunch menu, and in replacement for this in the dinner menu is its counterpart, Deep-Fried Yolk Cream Bun. Undoubtedly, the yolk cream is flowy and as fluid as it can get. This Liu Sha Bao is one of the best I’ve had, very much because of its substantial egg yolk flavor. Though liquid in nature, the yolk cream is still thick and rich. A must-have dish here, for sure.

Steamed Siew Mai with Crab Roe :: $6.20++

Steamed Siew Mai with Crab Roe ($6.20++) :: Another of my more well-liked dim sum dishes by the restaurant. Very freshly made, and distinct flavors just burst outward on the first bite into the hot favorite.

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun :: $4.50++

Dinner Menu also includes Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, Steamed Fresh Prawn Dumpling and Pan-fried Carrot Cake to name a few. In my opinion, the dim sum items offered can surely satisfy your cravings for them, though I wouldn’t say that they are WOW-good. I mean, I am still in search of a Dim Sum Restaurant that serves top-class dim sum dishes all around. Meeting the ‘okay, this doesn’t fail’ is the norm nowadays. You just have to order the few best items. That will settle it.

The Cathay Restaurant has a selection of ten over steamed and fried dim sum dishes. Each of those averages at $4.50 per basket. They also offer quite an array of appetizers, vegetables, rice and noodles to go along. These, go at an average price of $9.

Special gratitude to Flora, and Yvonne and Christine from the Cathay Organisation team for the hospitality and hosting the invited tasting.

Any eateries along Upper Thomson Road is ulu to me. It is so inaccessible that I am eagerly waiting for more MRT lines to be actualized by LTA. Anyhow, let me try and make this as painless, wordless and picture-ful as possible. Quick background: Old School Delights is a lot about evoking the nostalgia in you with its items around you, and possibly the food as well. Mainly targeting the baby boomers and around, one would be especially thrilled to find some of the old school toys and displays still existent in this technologically evolving country.

On each table, a Toy Box is placed by the side for your entertainment. Many a time, diners would be distracted by the toy box, ignoring their growling stomachs, or the fact that ordering of food is actually required. Don’t make the same mistake, (1) Order (2) Play. That is the right order. Even as a 90s baby, I have played Five Stones, the Country Erasers, Snakes & Ladders, and Donkey before. If it was already nostalgic enough for me, imagine my parents when they were at the table..

Chendol ($3.80+ ) :: I thought the coconut was a little too overpowering. That is just me, but pretty acceptable in general.

The food, in general, are edible and can-eat, though they do not commonly contain the wow-factor. I say it’s a must to head there at least once, just to relive the childhood moments and memories. Go with your family, that would appear more priceless it seems. Grab some photos, and admire it some years down the road again. Pictures speak a thousand words, here are a few more.

Service is commendable. Their job is not only to wait the tables, but to make sure you have the time of your <del>life</del> day, they know what their restaurants can offer.

This is the view you will be greeted with, upon reaching The Boxing Crab Seafood Restaurant – right at the west edge of Sentosa island, surrounded by Underwater World and Shangri-la’s Rasa Sentosa, if you are more familiar with that. If you are in that area, take any Buses that will stop at Siloso Point. Just a short 5 minutes walk inwards and you will see the panorama view of Keppel Bay.

Mother’s Day Menu.

A hidden secret and gem in one corner of Singapore, the restaurant has prepared for many-would-agree most benevolent, celebrated day across the world – Mother’s Day. If you are not looking at somewhere ordinary and plain old similar, and would actually like to have a walk down the beach before / after dinner, you are in luck. Offering a 7-course menu this year, the eatery has put included a satisfying portion of seafood, prepared in a very Asian style. Wear something loose, as you start to indulge in some of the literally finger-licking good items.

Deep Fried Spiny Lobster Salad.

Deep Fried Spiny Lobster Salad :: As many would like to, the first course is meant for it to be a loud bang. As cameras were whipped out enthusiastically for the pageant contestant, others were drooling uncontrollably in hope to start on the item sooner rather than later. Faces of satisfaction were seen after the first bite into it, and my dining companion proclaimed his love for this course afterwards.

Braised Treasure Chicken in Lotus Leaf.

Braised Treasure Chicken in Lotus Leaf :: I was surprised to fall in love with this dish, especially since food cooked the Chinese style do not usually fit my bill. However, the combination of mushrooms, chestnuts etc. has evoked an acceptably warm taste of herbs. As there was a sizable portion of the chicken not being that of tender / thigh meat, I actually enjoyed more of the accompanying gravy than the main show itself.

Homemade Water Chestnut Bean Curd with Spices Meat.

Homemade Water Chestnut Bean Curd with Spices Meat :: I was expecting a good clash saltiness and sweetness, and maybe some mild spiciness all in one, but thought it didn’t quite meet my expectation eventually. The chestnut and meat together did not make a good couple, and they were not popular and memorable.

Stir Fried Sea Scallop and Prawn with Asparagus.

Stir Fried Sea Scallop and Prawn with Asparagus :: This basket, on the other hand, impressed me beyond words. The scallops were perfectly done, with it still being chewy and having its springiness in tact. It was neither too tough nor too soft, but just right for savoring its every bit of flavor. Likewise, the prawns were fresh and not overcooked. One of the dishes I enjoyed to the fullest.

Braised Chili Crab Wrapped in Lotus Leaf with Deep Fried Bun :: What is extraordinary here is that, eating crabs here is like being a surgeon. You are fully equipped, with an apron saying, ‘Crabbing in Process’, gloves (plastic), and the necessary crab-shell breaking tools to properly de-shell the seafood. Very thoughtful, don’t you think? I’m no crab expert, but it’s one of the better Chili Crab I’ve had. It actually -is- spicy, and the chunks of crab meat are actually visible and present; They are the only things I ask for.

Stir Fried Vermicelli with Seafood :: Squids and prawns made up most of the seafood in the vermicelli. As per above, its seafood here are fresh and orgasmically indulgent. The vermicelli, however, fell short, as I thought it was a little too dry too sticky.

Information on the Menu :: The Mother’s Day Menu is from 1 – 12 May 2013, at $328++ for 4 persons. It is going for $428++ for 6 persons, though then, is for an 8-course meal. The 8-course menu includes Charcoal Grill Sea Scallop, Steamed Cod Fillet, Gratin King Prawn, Braised Treasure Chicken, Braised Abalone and Black Moss, the above Seafood Vermicelli and Red Bean Soup, and their signature crab, the Braised Claypot Crab with Superior Broth and Pumpkin. It is their secret to success, and I personally really quite like its texture and taste, and explains how well salted egg, curry and pumpkin goes together. Don’t worry, they sound like they don’t know each other well, but they sure blend well as one.

FREE CRAB:
From 1 – 12 May 2013, a free 1kg of additional crab will be given for every Mother’s Day Menu ordered. Oooolala!

Besides The Boxing Crab Seafood Restaurant, Medzs (@ Millenia Walk & Orchard Central), is also offering a Mother’s Day Special Promotion on 12 May 2013 itself – a more westernized, meaty and seafood-oriented menu.

Special gratitude to Racheal, Magdalene and the Brand Cellar team for the hospitality and hosting the invited tasting.

Trying to contain a portion of my geekiness, I have actually harbored the thoughts of patronizing Epilogue Café for quite some time now, and only bringing it up when the right time strikes. Located inside of { prologue } Bookstore at Level 4, Orchard ION, it is probably a hideout for geeks and bookworms alike, who are looking for reasonable food at reasonable prices, and at a conducive environment to get sucked into the books.

Interior.

I love the setting. A whole full shelf of books. Wooden furnishings for a complete library feel. Though it’s not library-quiet, it is considerably tranquil in the bustling ION Orchard.

GET A BOOK FOR FREE:
Spend $25 and above in a single receipt to bring home a free book (off the cafe’s shelves).
Pick one and proceed to the counter for checking out. No strings attached.

I understand that many have been yearning for a chance to eat and drink in a library setting – this is just about the closest you will get. You can get the window seat too, overlooking the busy streets down below.

Menu.

I thought this is an apt dining location if you are in town, don’t want to spend a bomb on restaurants, and not on the crazily overpriced food court as well, mainly because they serve sandwiches and a small range of main courses at around $10.50, on an average. Personally, I would choose to come here than the basement food court any day. More peace, more enjoyment of food.

French Hot Chocolate :: $6.50

French Hot Chocolate ($6.50) :: Effort was put in for the coffee art, which I appreciate. This rendition of Hot Chocolate is not your everyday cup of the same. Depending on your preference, this cup is only mildly sweet. You can almost distinctly taste the cocoa. Slightly more milky. Smooth texture.

Peanut Chicken Sandwich :: $10.50

Peanut Chicken Sandwich ($10.50) :: First bite in and I already fell in love with its Mediterranean Panini Bread. I love its smartly toasted outside, and its naturally sweet taste. Matched with the very local peanut chicken, it is one of the few sandwiches I really don’t mind having (keeping in mind I am totally not a sandwich person). All sandwiches comes with mixed greens salad and chips.

Baked Mushroom Mac & Cheese :: $9

Baked Mushroom Mac & Cheese ($9) :: I thought the baked cheese blanketing the macaroni was perfectly done. Thick. Flavorful. Not cloying like many others. If you are a fan of mushrooms and cheese, go for this.

Tea-flavored Macarons :: $2.50

Tea-flavored Macarons ($2.50) :: I was very skeptical at first, because well, macarons aren’t an easy dessert piece to perfect. Not especially at a café. I had a go, nevertheless, at their Chamomile and Chai flavored ones. The former didn’t make much of an impression as I couldn’t really make out the Chamomile flavor. The latter however, had a more distinct taste. Flavors aside, their macaron shells match my expectation and liking. Not crumbly, and tough enough to withstand a couple more chews. Worth it.

—> Note #1: Prices stated are net. No GST and service charge.

—> Note #2: POPULAR bookstore members are entitled to a 10% discount (upon showing of membership card).

I am no Korean food veteran, but in the recent months, I have conformed to the social norms and trends, of being all crazed about Korean, well, things. I’m proud to say though, that I haven’t been entirely sucked in. Save for Korean food, I remain clueless to their music, TV or basically any other things. Having only been an amateur, I have found love to Korean food, particularly their BBQ items.

Menu.

Located in the newly developed (food-wise) precinct, Tiong Bahru, it was a chore trying to get seats around the popular restaurants down the stretch, without a reservation, and BigMama Korean Restaurant was one of them. You ought to know that if you walk in, they will not be able to commit an exact time f0r when the table will be ready.

Reservation Notice.

Appetizers :: Complimentary, as in almost all other Korean Restaurants. Their kimchi is particularly satisfying, what with it being slightly more spicy, and not soggy at all. The rest were forgettable. The appetizers are unlimitedly refillable.

Dakgalbi :: $15+

Dakgalbi with Fried Rice :: Additional $3+

Dakgalbi ($15+) :: This pan-fried chicken is one of their signature items. Stated price is for 1 person, and a minimum order for 2 persons is needed. The waitperson would bring out a stove at your table to cook it there and then. Pros and cons. While it’s entertaining to watch the cooking done, the smoke and smell that gets to you might stink your clothes up, though that’s pretty much to-be-expected whilst at a Korean Restaurant with BBQ items. So there, in your face, they would pan-fry the chicken with vegetables, rice cakes, sweet potato, and spicy sauce. I’ve learned that Korean chili are not all that spicy more often than not. And it is true for this dish, in case you are pondering back and forth in fear of spiciness. I would strongly recommend adding Fried Rice ($3+) to the chicken. This is how it works. They would cook the chicken. You eat slightly more than half of them up. They would again, come in to fry the rice with the remaining portion. Seaweeds and seasonings are added in the process. Poof! Comes a better presented and better tasting creation. The seaweed was the most memorable and fragrant. Worth the $3. Otherwise, the Dakgalbi itself did not quite live up to the name of signature dish.

Dwaeji Moksal Yangnyum Gui :: $18+

Dwaeji Moksal Yangnyum Gui ($18+) :: Grilled, pork collar slices, with Gal-bi seasoning. I held high expectations for this, mainly because I love pork collar, and more so with it grilled. But the meat turned out tougher than assumed, even dry, I’d say. The seasoning was mildly sweet and did not help with the poor quality of meat. Major disappointment.

Haemul Buchu Jeon :: $15+

Haemul Buchu Jeon ($15+) :: For a pancake accompanied with chives and seafood to be $15, I thought it too expensive and had better be of top class quality. Unfortunately, it failed to water down the disappointment. The seafood was insufficient and was not distinct at all. We agreed that it was slightly too floury as well.

I have no idea what the hype is about. I had one of their signature dishes, and some other regular items, it couldn’t have been that I had the wrong items. Nevertheless, there is still chance for redemption, if I were to be asked along for a second shot. I would then give them the benefit of the doubt and try other items on the menu. Despite running on full house, service was not compromised. That is at least, commendable.

On 28 April 2013, Tim Ho Wan Singapore is holding its first ever Charity Event – Buy-A-Bao for Charity @ Tim Ho Wan. It is held in conjunction with the official opening of the restaurant. I can vouch, that the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork here is indeed, heavenly. It has deservedly earned for itself the many different compliments from all around.

Adopted Charity :: 100% of the proceeds will go to this charity, by the name of The Straits Times School Pocket Fund. Started in 2000, this community project was initiated by The Straits Times, in hope to provide for the financially needy kids in Singapore – providing them the pocket money to buy food during recess, or pay for bus fares and the likes. It raised more than $44,000,000 in its first 10 years, and was later granted the charity status in late 2011.

DONATION VS NUMBER OF BBQ PORK BUN:
$2: 1
$5: 2
$10: 3
$20: 4
$40: 6
$50: 7
$60: 8
$80: 9

Chocolate is a confection that is just about the most universally liked food. It is believed that more than 5 billion of the world population like chocolates. If I were to throw out a guess, I’d say that 9 out of 10 people on the streets say ‘yay’ to this snack.

Monbana Chocolate.

Monbana Chocolate has decided to penetrate the chocolate-loving populace here in town lately. This French brand made the scene some 80 years ago, starting out with just chocolate powder and small chocolate squares to be served with coffee. Since then, Monbana has been striving for excellence and rejuvenation in the market, marketing more products along the way. Today, they have a wide range to segment the offer and satisfy all occasions.

If you want to have a sense of where Monbana Chocolate stands in the Europe – it is like Royce’ Chocolate in Japan. All products presented here are imported from France. Thanks for them, we don’t have to fly some 10 over hours to indulge in these selections.

Christmas Square Bar :: $11.90

Christmas Square Bar ($11.90) :: Packed in a beautiful skin, it serves as a perfect gift in the festive season. Available in dark, milk, or white chocolate base, the bar is adorned with christmas pearls, gingerbread and pieces of meringue. If you are a Christmas person, really, this brings around the taste of it even during summer. I loved it, personally, because it is choked full of the gingerbread taste, which only suggests Christmas, the season of joy. It being square might make you think that it’s a hard chocolate. But nope, it is exactly the opposite – it is soft and one can just ‘peel‘ it off for munches.

Assorted Chocolate Squares, Biscuits & Chocolate-Coated Specialties.

Assorted Chocolate Squares, Biscuits & Chocolate-Coated Specialties :: As assortment would explain, (1) chocolate squares flavors include milk caramel, dark chocolate, milk cereals and dark orange to name a few. Chocolate squares come in different gift collection packaging, ranging from 18 pieces to 55 pieces, from $13.90 – $29.90. (2) As aforementioned, Monbana started its business with biscuits to complement coffee. With its long-running experience, it can’t go wrong, right. Butter biscuit, sweet honey nougat, biscuit made of sweet almond and cinnamon biscuit are only some of what they offer. I managed to try the latter (also known as Speculoos). I am not a totally cinnamon person, but it was not too overwhelming, and I could still manage to taste the fragrance of the biscuit. It was really a sweet treat. They are retailing at $22.90 for a packet of 75 biscuits. That can last you 2.5 months if you drink a cup of coffee every morning. (3) A large portion of what they are doing now makes up of chocolate-coated specialties. And that include roasted almond coated in chocolate and cocoa powder, colombian coffee bean, roasted and coated in milk chocolate, and marshmallow coated with milk chocolate to name a few. I absolutely love this series of chocolate-coated specialties. Like its other products, its chocolate is of top-class, and doesn’t harden over time. It still preserves it softness and melts in your mouth.

Gourmet Boxes :: $16.90

Gourmet Boxes ($16.90) :: It melts if you put in room temperature overnight. Keep it refrigerated. And that too, tells you how genuine the chocolate is – no nonsensical preservatives. Up on the shells are flavors like Pralinea, Crousti-Neige (crispy cereals coated with white chocolate and flavors of coffee) and Amandes (Chocolate Almonds) amongst others. I’m not the only victim, my family fell in love with this series of chocolates (my mother went to the extent of asking me to buy her another box of this). Personal favorite has to be Pralinea. If you are on a tight budget and only want to purchase one product of them all, this is the one to buy.

Dessert (Cookies) Mix :: $16.90

Dessert (Cookies) Mix ($16.90) :: After hearing about this, I thought the dessert mix is cut out specially for Singaporeans. Amidst the busy schedules of Singaporeans, who has time to do complicated baking, right. This easy dessert mix only needs 10 minutes of your time (for preparation). It is as easy as heating up the oven, adding water to the mix, putting slabs of the mix on the tray, and in to the oven it goes! It can make approximately 15 cookies.

Step 1: After heating the oven to 150degreescelsius, make a well with the mix and add 60ml of water.

Step 2: Mix until you get a sticky consistency. Let it rest for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Form balls of the mixture and place them on the baking tray.

Step 4: Place them in the middle of the oven and leave it for 20 minutes. And tada!

Other Products :: Monbana doesn’t only have the above, the array of products they’ve brought to Singapore are way more than that. They also have Cocoa Powder (both hot & iced mixtures) ranging only from $16.90 – $25.90, Cooking Chocolate (perfect for making desserts and chocolate sauces) at only $11,20, and Tea Blends from $19.90 – $28.80 (loose leaves available). Looking at the pretty packaging, you might be intrigued to present it as a gift, for whatever suitable occasions all year round. You can request for a Personalized Gourmet Basket, so that the receiving end can have the best of all worlds.
